Asha Koshy, MN, NP (PHC)
Asha Koshy is a Nurse Practitioner who has specialized in Primary Health Care. Her scope of practice encompasses health promotion, prevention of illness and injury, diagnoses and management of acute and chronic conditions throughout the aging process.
She attended McMaster University to pursue her undergraduate degree in Nursing and graduated with Honours. She went on to complete her Masters of Nursing and Nurse Practitioner program from Queen’s University. Prior to joining Samy’s Family and Wellness Center, she worked as a registered nurse on a surgical floor at St. Joseph’s Healthcare, Hamilton.
Asha understands that each patient is unique and has specific healthcare needs. She has a strong passion for active listening to her patients and providing health care with a patient-centered approach. She believes that mutual respect, clinical expertise and collaboration are key to providing effective and efficient healthcare.
Monica Chiwara , MN, NP (PHC)
Monica Chiwara is a Family Nurse Practitioner who has specialized in Primary Health Care. Her scope of practice encompasses health promotion with the aim of optimizing the health of Patients, families, communities, and populations. She is also authorized to diagnose, order and interpret diagnostic tests, and prescribe medication and other treatments. She also has Certificate of Competency in IUD Insertion
She attended McMaster University to pursue her undergraduate degree in Nursing. She went on to complete her Masters of Nursing and Nurse Practitioner program from D’Youville College in USA. Prior to joining Samy’s Family and Wellness Center, she has eleven years of nursing experience including education in various areas of patient care (medicine, surgical, cardiac, and palliative). She worked at a Walk in clinic/ Family clinic in Cambridge for over a year. She also works at a Community Health Center here in Hamilton, where she does Group teaching in health education.
She believes in building a long lasting and trusting relationship with patients. She seeks to acquire a comprehensive evaluation of every patient by taking time to listen and understand their particular needs. Her true desire is to enhance a positive healing experience and confidence to those in need. Patients should be empowered to take an active role in their healthcare plans and decisions.
